Our major focus is on development and diseases of the urogenital and the nervous systems. We aim to delineate molecular and genetic mechanisms of how the autonomic and sensory nervous and the urinary systems interact to sustain normal development and homeostasis. This informs us on fundamental concepts in organogenesis, injury, repair and regeneration. This knowledge base paves the way for early diagnosis, therapy, prognosis and making new kidneys in patients with urinary system birth defects, kidney failure and bladder disorders.  We use a variety of model systems including mice, zebrafish and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and technologies such as exome and whole genome sequencing of patients with kidney diseases and single cell sequencing of progenitors along differentiation stages during development.
